Pattern Pattern is a design project. It's about the basic design element patterns and relations with it's infinite variations. The superimposed of different patterns and variations makes this project more interesting.

As a result of this project, an iPad app was developed. The users can design their geometric groups by linking the points in a 5x5 grid square system. These geometric groups could then be used as a basic pattern to create graphics.

The user could also superimpose their graphics to see the moire effect in action, which enables more possibilities of creation. In addition to geometric patterns, the users could also use photos to make patterns.

Geometric Patterns

These patterns were made through the 5x5 grid square system. There are so many possibilities with this design system.

Photo Patterns

Since images are an expression of the digital age. It will be cool if you can create patterns through photos. Here shows you some results produced by the photo pattern function.

You can take a photo with the iPad or just one from your photo album, as the basic material. And then select a part of the photo and repeat it with a rule. A pattern will be generated and you could also superimpose different patterns to get some unexpected results.

Nature Patterns

In the last part, you are being presented with a group of experimental patterns. I have always been interested in natural patterns, which are visible regularities of form. For example, snowflakes, lines on plant leaves, or waves.

During a trip to Iceland, the magical landscape there has inspired me. So I tried to reorganize and arrange these textures from the nature, to create natural patterns. They are taken from the thousands year aged glaciers, waves, rocks, minerals and shells.
